Similarities between two of the supernatural creature stories of our time

Hello again :).

There's something that's been bothering me for quite a while. Hasn't anybody ever wondered why so many people are writing about supernatural creatures now-a-days? Not just any supernatural creature, but werewolves and vampires.

OK, I know. The success the Twilight Saga has tasted is very appealing to many people. Everybody wants to partake of the juicy prize. But, what's exceptionally annoying is the similarity between the many stories and novels that fall within this genre.

Let's take two examples and compare them.

Twilight and Vampire Diaries.

1. Both Bella and Elena are humans who happen to be very appealing to all vampires.

2.Both Bella and Elena happen to just stumble across a vampire (Edward and Stefan respectively, who incidentally are in love with them and have been waiting for them for God knows how many years).

3.There is another guy involved in the picture, who also happens to be in love with the girl( Jacob and Damon respectively).

4.The two contenders for the heart of the lovely damsel, share a strained relationship ( add to this some more drama where the new guy does something that protects our human, making our hero eternally grateful to him).

5.Let's welcome the werewolves. The gene is hereditary and not everyone can be werewolves.

6.The two creatures are poisonous to each other and may kill each other.

7.Vampire and werewolves are meant to be enemies from the dawn of time.

8.Our precious human is in love with both the vampire and the werewolf(or vampire).

9.Enter a third party, who has some kind of hatred towards our human and wants to either hurt her and her loved one's or kill them ( Victoria and Katherine respectively).

10.The oldest vampires of the world are alive and due to some reason or the other, drop in on our friends from time- to- time ( the Volturi and the Originals respectively).

11.Yee-haw!!!! Time for a big showdown. The oldest vampires v/s our crew of love lorn vamps and wolves.

12.Our human makes out with both the guys, although she claims to be in love with only one of them.

13.She also tries to put her life on the line to save the people she loves, but only ends up making a mess, that others have to clean up.

14.The hatred between the vampires and werewolves ebbs away, as they combine forces to save the girl.

15.Both Bella and Elena are paler(whiter) than the vampires (although this is a feat, since vampires are the palest things on Earth).

16.The idiotic, weak humans end up getting the jackpot, despite being the reason for so many vampires', werewolves' and humans' death.

There are many more similarities, but, I really don't have the time to write them all and I'm pretty sure that you don't have the time to read them.

Anyways, if anybody happens to read this article, please do let me know your thoughts. If you remember any other similarity, please do share.

Well, gotta go. Unlike Bella and Elena, we don't have an entourage that does our work for us.

See ya. Take care. Bye :).

Poor,sweaty infatuation

Do you know that feeling in the back of your mind, when you want a certain somebody to notice you, but, your morals and your bad luck create barriers that hinder the growth of expression of the same?

Yes. It's the same story everywhere. I guess the worst thing that could happen to a person(especially teenagers) is for them to develop a crush on someone. Infatuation is a curse of the worst kind. If you have the courage to approach the object of your desires and things go well and you hit it off, then infatuation is the best thing that could happen to you. But let's face the facts. How many of us can honestly say that we have always been successful in our dealings with lust and love? Unless you are Aphrodite and Cupid incarnate,I don't think anyone can claim sovereign victory over the hearts of others.

There could be two reasons for this. One,you can have only so many victories. After your winning streak runs out, you have to lose. Second, you want to win, but your inhibitions don't let you get past the secret sidelong glances and at the most, some incomprehensible stammering. There is of course the extreme case of you not having anything lovable about you and in turn being a repellent, instead of a turn on. But I truly believe that no one is that far gone bad.

When you have a crush, suddenly you start putting a lot of thought into your outfits and make up. I bet even scientists don't put in as much thought into their research. You see, the art of snaring the desired's mind lies in the physical; appearance. Let's face it. All this talk of falling for the inner qualities of a person is just a load of waffle. Inner qualities are tools that enhance the physical beauty - a fact most people fail to grasp. You see, there is a technique to looking beautiful. You need to put on only a certain amount of make up, which gives you glowing, ethereal look, but,it should also look as though you're not wearing make up. Tricky right? Even with clothes. You should wear something that flatters your body. It could be something traditional or something modern, But never overdo it.

OK,enough with the fashion advice. Back to the main point. When you have a crush on someone, you are always jumpy and on the edge. You are very alert. If you're not alert and the person of your dreams suddenly turns up, you jar awake and your heart gives an almighty thump, which literally catapults it into your mouth. Your nervous attention immediately shifts from your desired towards your heart, which threatens to pour out your mouth like vomit. The worst that could happen at this point is your dearie's looking at you. A myriad of thoughts run through your head. "Oh my, why is s/he looking at me? Does s/he like me? Do I have drool on my chin? Does s/he think I'm stupid? Does s/he like somebody else? Oh, I knew I shouldn't have put on this outfit." and so on. To add fuel to the already raging fire, if this person comes over and talks to you, oh dear God!!! Not only will be too preoccupied with your restless heart and your million thoughts, you will take a few moments to even realise that this person is talking to you, let alone process what they are saying. By the time you do realise what s/he is saying,it's too late and your desired leaves thinking you're either a stuck-up anti-social person or a retard. After this unfortunate meeting, your desired remains only that - your desire, something that is not likely to become a reality, unless a miracle happens.

Miracles as you all know, only happen when the good lord favours your prayers. But, I have always believed that one should not waste prayers for such frivolous things. After all, we are little fish in the big ocean. Sooner or later we will find someone who will fall in love with us. Hopefully by then your mental faculties will have gotten faster. If it hasn't, well, even God won't be able to help you.

Well, life is weird, Many times it so happens that the people we like are not interested in us and the one's who like us, haven't caught our interest. This brings things to a full circle, don't you think? No matter how many successes we have had, there is always a failure and no matter how many failures we have had, there is always a success. It's just that we never realise it and when we do, it will have already been too late.

Time's Do Over

It's been such a long time since I last posted. Speaking of time, I suddenly remembered my sister writing this absolutely wonderful poem about time. She wrote of how time flies away, leaving us behind. You know, what she wrote was true. Time never waits for anyone. It's kind of sad actually. Imagine what all could have been achieved if time had not been selfish enough to hoard her bounty. Then again, it is because of this trait of hers that we humans have learnt to work hard, to persevere, to adjust. If time had given us the ability to do things over, then people would first of all procrastinate absolutely everything. Then, they wouldn't even put in their best efforts in the things they were working on. Why waste your energy on something you could do again tomorrow. Oh sorry. If time would let us go back in time, then tomorrow would technically still be today. Right??? So when you think about it, you would be living the same day, over and over again. Wow!!! That would be such a BORE. Hey, maybe that's why time doesn't give us a do over. We humans would be so stuck in the past, we would lose the will to live the future. We would be so consumed with thoughts of today, that we would forget about tomorrow. Hmmmm interesting theory. Well, I honestly don't know what I'm aiming at right now. Now-a-days, my thoughts have become so entangled. OK I guess I should be going. Since time won't change her rules for us, we have to adjust to her. So adios amigos. I will be back soon.

Till then.................time travels. :)

P.S : She's a time fairy. See the glass of sand she's sitting on. Cute right :).

Words of love and the lack of it

I love to read stories from Hindu mythology. Especially those stories that most people don't know exist. The beauty of these stories, especially the ones that speak of the desires and love and other emotions, is the freedom.

In today's society, it is frowned upon,if a woman dares even look at a man(in conservative Indian families), let alone, her declaring her undying love for him. In these stories, you see women confessing the secret of their erratic heartbeats, the reason for their existence. It might seem strange to us, if a woman tells a man that "she has adorned herself with garlands and drawn designs on her breast with sandal paste and pollen, as a gesture of unquenched love" and it might be weird to hear a man say,"his arms are aching with restless desire to embrace the one who has robbed him of the air to breath, the house in his breast is cold, for want of a companion".

Men today might not use such extravagantly poetic sentences, but they do confess their love. Women on the other hand, have been stripped of their right of self-expression. Women have to comply with rules laid down by man. The stories from mythology do not lack examples of women being given a pride of place.

This is quite a sad affair. The beauty of such sweet words can only be experienced, if one gives them an outlet. Maybe this male dominance is the reason for many a woman's thwarted desires. True, I seem to be moving away from the point. But, what is the point?

The point is, women today have lost that place of honor they once had. Mythology is based on the true state of affairs of the past. The beauty of love and all other emotions has receded due to lack of expression. Man's ego has hindered the growth of love and language. True,I seem to be giving a hazy view of things, but, this is all I can think of right now.

I would love to have a discussion on this topic with people who have any view on mythology. Not just Hindu mythology, but every cultures mythology. I hope to revive the act of expression, atleast to some extent, by this small gesture.

The healing power of YOGA

I started doing yoga about a year ago. My mother, my sister and I had always wanted to join a yoga class. But, due to multiple reasons, we weren't able to do so. Finally, our chance arrived, not on a silver platter, but in the form of a call from a colleague of my mother's, that there was a yoga class near her place. She said that the teacher was a very sweet woman and that she taught, not only yoga, but also aerobics. So, from that day on we have been going to yoga everyday and we haven't regretted it ever since.

Contrary to popular belief, people don't just do yoga to lose weight. Yoga basically means " awareness of mind, body and soul". There are many things to yoga and not just some sort of fancy stretching, as most people think.

Yoga involves five different parts of a person. The Sanskrit words will prove to be a challenge for most readers and so, I will just explain the basics. The first part is the physical part-our body. The second, our mind - the conscious part. The third is our surroundings. The fourth, our sub-conscious and unconscious mind. The fifth, is that higher power that guides us - the universal power.

Around these five parts are all the asanas ( physical exercises) and the pranayama ( breathing techniques) built. Yoga is truly a healing force. It not only gives our body extreme flexibility, it also gives us a lot of energy. Cosmic Energy.

Yoga strengthens all our muscles and inturn heals the injured parts. Doctors advice people with all sorts of problems to do yoga. The breathing techniques help in removing all the harmful toxins, thereby making our body healthier. It also increases our lung capacity.

It is believed, that the more good things we have done in our past life - KARMA - the sooner will we get to do yoga. Therefore, if we get to practice yoga at a very early age, then we were very good people in our previous life. The concept works the other way too.

Yoga has really influenced my life. I used to be very depressed and short-tempered and pessimistic before I started practising yoga. But now, I'm always happy, optimistic and open. True, you could say that I'm a little biased, because I love yoga. But hey, when something you wanted to try out just for fun, becomes the most important and happy part of your day, then there must be some truth to all of this.

Right??

B's for boring

Being a business school student is hard work. True, all disciplines have their own sticky spots, but, being a part of a B-school, definitely asks for a lot on your part. I mean, for one thing, you need to be up-to-date with all business-related news. But what do you do, if you're the kind of person who can never be friends with the business segment of the newspaper?

I know, ha ha!!! Yeah, keep laughing. But you know what, I really have nothing to counteract this with. It's true. I absolutely detest reading the business column of the paper and I have an intense dislike of all talk shows that involve business. The reason - BORING!!!!!

I know you're probably asking yourself right now, "Hey, if you hate it so much, then what are you doing in a business school?" Well see, here's the thing. The reason I joined a B-school was so I could use my gift to gabble and put it to the ultimate test. Talk about the thing I really disliked and actually be good at it.

The funny thing is, I'm actually doing very well at my B-school. Be it in the form of academics, or inter-collegiate competitions, I am working my way to the top. The only thing that's pulling me down, is my self imposed abstinence from acquiring business-related news.

I know. I have to stop acting like a spoilt, willful child and atleast attempt to learn something. If I can be this good without knowing things about the business world, then just imagine how good I can be if I did know its juicy tit-bits.......................yes, this is what I ought to say to myself. But, do you know what i do say to myself?

"God!! Business sucks!!"

Ha ha.......toodles.

Hope of a home

Tranquil waters,
Warm trees,
Cascading moonlight,
Calm breeze.

This is the home I want to live in. Not the pollution filled, global warming ridden world.

What about you?

Lets make the world a greener place to live.

The dance of the floating words

Poetry is something that not everyone can appreciate. To truly appreciate poetry, we must first let it in. Let it into our souls. Poetry is the dance of the floating words. What I mean by 'floating words' is that - words are gateways to worlds we cannot see, the portals to the truths we are not meant to know.

Poetry is an art. I know that 'art' is an odd word to use, in the context of literature. But then again, literature is the dance of words , dance being a form of art and art is the silent story of our souls.

The best thing about poetry is its obscurity. No meaning is the right one. A single verse could have a dozen different meanings. But, the true beauty of poetry is the guessing game we play with the words. We always wonder what other way is there to explain the words of the poet.

Poetry is the mistress of the night, who is continually shrouded in the veils of darkness. She is near us, but we can never truly see her. She never lets us know her secrets. She makes her presence known through subtle means. But, the moment we feel that she will be within our grasp, she escapes.

This is not a bad thing. But infact, a fascinating aspect of poetry. This piece of literature is like an unexplored archeological site. The deeper we dig, the more magical treasures we unearth.

Poetry is truly a work of beauty. Its like a fountain of'AMRUTHA'.i.e. elixir of life. Once we have tasted it, we have an intense, lifelong desire to taste it again. More than that, it truly alters the perspective of a person.

Poetry, though not enjoying the following and respect it truly deserves, will one day surely rise from the ashes, like a firey phoenix and consume everyone in her fires of passion and magic.
